Not to be confused with the more famous Milford Sound, Marlborough Sound is the entrance to the South Island by boat. Even if you take the night boat, we recommend being awake for the arrival - the surrounding mountains are spectacular. (We also recommend flying one way - it is a 20 minute flight, or a three hour ferry ride, and the cost is about the same!)
